When’s the best time of day for seniors to exercise?

Question: When’s the best time of day for seniors to exercise?

Answer: The best time of day for anyone to exercise is the time that works best for them!

Let’s be honest: Regardless of age, many individuals don’t look forward to a workout. We know it’s good for us, we know we should do it, but actually committing the time can be difficult. To combat this, it’s best to schedule your workout at the time that makes the most sense for you. Are you most energetic in the morning? Do you prefer to go for a walk after an afternoon nap or dinner? What time are you most likely to actually be able to complete a workout?

Working out in the morning does increase the likelihood of sticking to an exercise regimen as you’ll be less likely to have your day get in the way, but if you’re not a morning person, don’t sweat it!

Another consideration is chronic conditions. Individuals with arthritis and other chronic conditions might find they’re the most stiff in the morning, and this might make you less inclined to exercise. While it might be tough to get going, it’s recommended that individuals with arthritis get moving in the morning to help ease pain and stiffness for the rest of the day.

The only time you’ll want to avoid exercising is three hours prior to bed. Some studies have shown that exercising before bed can make it harder to sleep.
