The Military Is Gearing Toward All-Electric Gear

The United States military was always known for being one of the more advanced armies on the globe in terms of weapons, technology and special training. Finally, as the world shifts towards an all-electric tomorrow, EV-maker Canoo designs and delivers the first all-electric light-duty military tactical vehicle to the U.S. Army for analysis and demonstration.

The Canoo LTV (light tactical vehicle) is everything the military could want in a field vehicle. First, with an all-electric motor, it’s quiet. Utilizing lightweight Kevlar body paneling, it provides vital protection to passengers and drivers without the added weight of metal armor.

One of the most impressive aspects of the LTV is the convertible bed. It can be converted to a traditional pickup bed, a flatbed, or a cargo bed in a matter of a few seconds – making the LTV suitable for a variety of situations while on the field. In addition, the LTV is designed around interchangeable tactical attachments for the bed, like ramps, tents, storage boxes and more.

“The [Canoo] LTV is another milestone proving the power of our technology and how it can be used, even in tactical situations,” said Chairman & CEO at Canoo, Tony Aquila. “This is a winning algorithm for our customers and company.”

As far as power goes, the LTV is anything but lightweight. The current output for the model being tested is up to 600 horsepower, being delivered to an incredible all-wheel-drive system. Putting all that power to the ground are 32-inch all-terrain tires, lending the LTV the ability to handle just about anything.

The all-electric battery configuration makes the LTV more spacious than the traditional tactical vehicle, as batteries are underneath floorboards – allowing cargo and passenger space to be prioritized.

Specific configurations and technical specs will be released when the LTV is to be produced, but from what has been released, it’s a vehicle that the military could only benefit from.
