K-9 Helps North Carolina Deputy Recover From Gunshot Wounds

(AP) — Although he endures unbearable pain, especially on rainy days, from the four gunshot wounds he sustained in the line of duty on Feb. 4, 2021, Nash County Deputy William Toney is holding up well.He looks fit, has a warm and personable demeanor and forgiveness in his heart for the man who tried to kill him during a traffic stop on I-95.Toney, 49, gives a lot of credit for his recovery to this point to his on-the-job partner, Chase, a 7-year-old German shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix.Chase has been with Toney since he was released from the hospital. New Trial for N. Carolina Insurance Magnate Set for March

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A new trial for a North Carolina-based insurance magnate whose previous convictions on corruption-related charges were overturned is set for early March, a federal judge decided on Monday.Attorneys for Greg E. Lindberg and the U.S. government met with U.S. District Judge Max Cogburn, who set a schedule for proceedings leading to a tentative trial date, according to a description of the hearing posted on the federal courts’ web site.Cogburn released Lindberg from a minimum-security prison in Alabama last month, weeks after the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals vacated Lindberg's convictions from March 2020 and ordered a new trial.Lindberg had been sentenced to more than seven years after being convicted of attempting to bribe North Carolina’s insurance commissioner...

The 1987 film "Dirty Dancing" has been revered for its iconic Catskills setting in the Catskills. On Tuesday night, a building at the famed New York resort that once hosted idyllic family summers and served as inspiration for the film's backdrop burned down. The Liberty, New York, fire department said Wednesday that a three-and-a-half-story building at Grossinger's Catskill resort had caught on fire overnight.
