Why Ted Cruz is lashing out at Mitch McConnell

CNN  —  Ted Cruz went ham on Mitch McConnell on Monday. “Mitch would rather be leader than have a Republican majority,” Cruz said on his podcast. “If there’s a Republican who can win who’s not going to support Mitch, the truth of the matter is he’d rather the Democrat win.” Which, well, whoa! Cruz has also been part of a small group of Republican senators pushing to delay leadership elections until after the December 6 runoff in Georgia. Asked Tuesday by CNN whether he would back McConnell as Senate GOP leader, he declined to answer. How to explain Cruz’s rhetoric about McConnell? Easy. It’s politics. Cruz has made no secret of his political ambitions. He fin...

Live updates: US midterm election and early voting news

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney returned to the campaign trail in Michigan Tuesday night, receiving a standing ovation more than 1,600 miles from her Wyoming home — and a world away from the Republican politics that has been her family’s lifeblood. “If we want to ensure the survival of the republic, we have to walk away from politics as usual,” Cheney said. “We have to stand up — every one of us — and say we’re going to do what’s right for this country. We’re going to look beyond partisan politics.” A week after Cheney offered a surprise endorsement of Rep. CNN  —  President Joe Biden stands accused of playing politics with petroleum. His opponents say the reason he is releasing millions of barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is to bring prices at the pump down before the midterm elections. They might be right. As public opinion polls reveal, the economy appears to be the top issue for voters. As we approach the midterms, more and more candidates, especially in the GOP, are running on anti-infl...

Biden says it’s his ‘intention’ to run again in 2024

CNN  —  President Joe Biden said Friday that while he has not made a formal decision about running for reelection in 2024, it is his “intention” to do so. “The reason I’m not making a judgment about formally running or not running, once I make that judgment, a whole series of regulations kick in and I have to be – I treat myself as a candidate from that moment on. I have not made that formal decision, but it’s my intention – my intention to run again. And we have time to make that decision,” Biden told MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart in an interview at Delaware State University in Dover. The question of Biden’s political future will be front-and-center for Democrats after November’s midterm elections, i...
