No new pediatric flu deaths in B.C. this week, BCCDC says

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control said Thursday it had not documented any new influenza-related deaths among children and youth in the past week. The statement, contained in a weekly “respiratory epidemiology summary” comes after provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry pledged weekly updates on deaths among children and youth.That promise followed revelations that four children and two teenagers had died of flu-related illness. Some of the deaths were believed to be caused by secondary bacterial infections, a possible flu complication. Calgary school Advent concert moved to online over health concerns – Calgary

The Calgary Catholic School District has moved the annual Advent choir performance from in-person to online this year. The “Hear the Angels Sing” Calgary Catholic School District High School Advent and Christmas Choral Festival celebrates the sacred songs of Advent and Christmas. This year marks the 28th year of the festival.The event was scheduled to take place at St. Michael’s church in southwest Calgary on December 6. UW Health reports surge in flu cases in recent weeks

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Doctors with UW Health are noting a huge uptick in flu cases over the last few weeks and are asking the community to stay safe. During the week of Nov. 21-27, UW Health reported 422 cases of influenza. A spokesperson for UW Health said that number is higher than anything it saw during the 2019-2020 flu season, which was the last one before the pandemic started. The health system says this increase in cases is concerning, as the 2019-2020 flu season was severe and peaked in February of 2020 with 318 cases in one week.
