INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — State health officials urged Indiana residents Monday to get vaccinated soon against influenza as hospitals face a surge in cases during a flu season that's already claimed at least two dozen lives.State Health Commissioner Kris Box said flu transmission levels are currently high across Indiana and many other states. FISHERS — The Fishers Police Department can now test for DNA in just 90 minutes. The new technology is called Rapid it DNA. Fishers PD is the first agency in the state to utilize the equipment."Rapid DNA essentially allows us to build profiles of DNA in-house at a local level," Fishers Police Chief Ed. Gebhart said.The $250,000 investment is only used in two other states right now, Arizona and Pennsylvania. Cause Sought for Indiana House Explosion That Killed 3

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities worked Thursday to determine the cause of a house explosion in a southern Indiana neighborhood that killed three people and left another person hospitalized.The explosion Wednesday afternoon in Evansville damaged 39 homes and crews had not yet completed thorough searches of all of them due to instability of the structures, Fire Chief Mike Connelly told reporters Thursday morning.Eleven of the damaged homes were uninhabitable and will have to be demolished, Connelly said, and finding a cause is expected to be a “very tedious process — and lengthy."Names of the dead hadn't been released as of Thursday morning. Indiana's Legislature became the first in the nation Friday to pass new legislation restricting access to abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. The measure now goes to Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb, who has not indicated whether he will sign it. Indiana was among the earliest Republican-run state legislatures to debate tighter abortion laws after the Supreme Court ruling in June that removed constitutional protections for the procedure.
