Edmonton Oilers start slow again in loss to Calgary Flames – Edmonton

The Calgary Flames scored early and often on the way to a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night at Rogers Place. “Individual and system mistakes,” Leon Draisaitl said when asked about the cause of the issues on Saturday. “Little mistakes that are easy to clean up, but obviously you can’t spot a team three goals in back-to-back games.”“The response in the second and third periods was better, but when you put yourself down the way we did, it’s too big of a hill to climb after being down to that team,” Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft said. The teams combined for four goals in the first eight minutes of the game. Edmonton Oilers lose 5-4 to Canucks – Edmonton

The Vancouver Canucks went 3/10 on the power play to dump the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in NHL pre-season play Wednesday night in Abbotsford. “In the end I thought our penalty kill was working hard, Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft said after the game. “They did a lot of good things. But when you give their skill that much time, especially 5-on-3’s, all that kind of stuff; in the end it’s asking too much. It’s a bridge too far. And so, for us, it’s an area that we’re going to have to clean up going forward.”The Canucks grabbed the lead late in the first period when Nils Hoglander banged a rebound past Stuart Skinner.
