Calgary police identify arson suspect they believe could be in Winnipeg

Five months after a pair of house fires in Calgary’s Varsity neighbourhood, police have identified a suspect they believe was responsible. Now police are seeking help from the public in locating the man they believe could be in Alberta or Manitoba.Just after 3 a.m. on May 18, the Calgary Fire Department respond to a fire in the 1100 block of Varsity Estates Drive N.W.CCTV footage from the incident showed a man setting fire to a residential shed before fleeing the area, police said. The fire spread to the garage and house. Investigators believe the man was car prowling in the area before setting the fire. Calgary police are investigating the death of a man at a southwest CTrain station. Around 12:10 a.m. a passerby called the police as they noticed a body on the train tracks.Calgary police arrived a short time later to investigate. The Calgary Police Service said Wednesday it has arrested and charged one man following two separate incidents involving property damage to the Peace Bridge. Police were called to the Peace Bridge at around 4 a.m. on Sunday for reports of a man shattering 70 glass windowpanes along the bridge.Security footage provided by CPS appears to show a vandal smashing around 70 windowpanes panels on the side of the bridge that sits above the Bow River at around 4 a.m. on July 24.Witnesses also reported a man in his 40s was using a hammer and bricks to break the panel.
