Somerset Berkley’s Abbie O’Brien awarded Bay State Games scholarship


WOBURN — The Bay State Games has selected six statewide scholarship recipients for the 2022 Future Leaders Scholarship Program.

One of them happens to be Somerset Berkley senior Abbie O’Brien.

The three-sport athlete competes in field hockey, track and tennis, serving as a captain in two sports. O’Brien is ranked fourth in her class and is the youngest member of the town of Somerset Democratic Committee.

O’Brien recently helped the Raiders come away with the South Coast Conference Blue title and a berth in the Division II Round of 16 field hockey state tournament.

At school, she serves as a Big Buddy Freshman Guide, president of the Anti-Bullying coalition, vice president of Model UN, president of National Honor Society and vice president of Student Council.

O’Brien is also an accomplished dancer along with volunteering for the Somerset baseball league and recreation departments, the Family Service Association and Cradles to Crayons.

This year’s other scholarship recipients besides O’Brien were Rockland’s Sydney Blaney, Palmer’s Gwendolyn Duggan, Boston Latin’s Owen Jin, Triton Regional’s Sophia Latham and West Boylston’s Peyton Maloney.
