Six years in the making, Bobby Green fight at UFC 268 finally happening at ‘right time’

NEW YORK CITY – It took 6 years to come to fulfillment, however Al Iaquinta believes his match with Bobby Green is occurring at the correct time.

Initially lined up in 2015, the battle never ever emerged. Now in 2021, Iaquinta (14-6-1 MIXED MARTIAL ARTS, 9-5 UFC) and Green (27-1-12 MIXED MARTIAL ARTS, 8-7-1 UFC), 2 of the promo’s most skilled lightweights, will square off on the UFC 268 prelims Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

“We were supposed to fight in 2015 and that fight never ended up happening,” Iaquinta informed mixed martial arts Addict at a pre-fight press conference. “So in my head, I was like, ‘Oh, Bobby Green.’ He didn’t win (hist last) fight but I honestly thought he won the fight. It was a great fight and he came on strong at the end. Then, the next day, my manager texted me, ‘The UFC just offered you Bobby Green at MSG.’ I’m like, ‘Perfect, I’m in.’ It all just came together at the right time. That’s how it came together and it worked out really good.”

Iaquinta’s passion to eliminate Green comes from his regard. He’s delighted in seeing Green’s desire to handle all comers. Despite divisional standing, Green is a high-action fighter, and Iaquinta is delighted to evaluate himself after a 25-month lack from competitors.

“I think that’s Bobby Green’s thing. He keeps it close,” Iaquinta stated. “He’s got a truly distinct design. He’s been combating frequently. I’m entering there to eliminate. I’m not entering there to do anything else or have an excellent program or whatever. I’m entering there to eliminate and win. I believe that’s going to be the distinction.

The UFC 268 primary card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews/ESPN+ and early prelims on ESPN+.
