Mystery amiibo appears on Nintendo’s Product Safety page

Ever since I started reporting on amiibo all the way back in 2014, one place that I always went for juicy details was the Nintendo Consumer Product Safety page. (CPSIA) For those of you not in the know, the CPSIA is an act that was passed in 2008 which requires companies to certify the safety of toys to ensure they don’t contain anything that you don’t want your kids getting their hands on. While Nintendo typically updates these pages after a product has been announced, their are rare occasions where amiibo are actually leaked by these safety certificates. Believe it or not, both Gold and Silver Mario were actually leaked this way before an official announcement.

While we don’t have anything quite that amazing to report on today, we do see that Nintendo has just uploaded a new amiibo certificate for an unknown figure simply named “amiibo”. How mysterious! What we do know is that Nintendo has manufactured these amiibo in August and September. If history serves us right, we should see this mysterious new amiibo release about two to three months after the manufacture date.

Now, if I was a betting man, I would put my money on Sephiroth from the Super Smash Bros. line getting released alongside Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII in early December. To add fuel to the fire, Sephiroth was just displayed alongside other amiibo at the Zurich Pop-Con in Switzerland just a few days ago.

Here’s hoping Nintendo doesn’t make us wait too long for an official announcement. Stay tuned!
