Mets’ Dellin Betances felt better about fastball Monday than he did in first spring training appearance
After having a hard time in his spring launching on Thursday, Dellin Betances is a lot more positive about his fastball command after Monday’s trip.
On Thursday, he enabled 4 work on 2 hits and 2 strolls. On Monday, he enabled one unearned operate on one hit in his only inning of work.
Among Betances’ primary issues was to restrict the cut on his fastball, which he states he did on Monday.

I definitely could see it’s not cutting as much as it was last year, which is good for me. I felt like I was in the zone pretty good with it today.”
Betances stated his spike-curveball isn’t where he desires it to be right now, however likes the appearance of his slurve up until now.
“I still got some work that I need to do. Obviously trying to improve on commanding fastball, my spike breaking ball hasn’t been effective for me yet. Building some strength. if I do that, the more games I pitch, I’ll feel more prepared for this season…
“I’m never ever pleased. I’m constantly attempting to improve. I understand what I can do when I’m on top of my video game.”
Betances is coming off a season where he enabled 10 made runs in 11.2 innings (7.71 PERIOD), however from 2014 to 2018, he led all pitchers with a 14.6 K/9, while his 2.22 PERIOD was the second-lowest amongst reducers. He is getting in the last year of a two-year agreement.
