Kakarot Next-Gen Update Delayed for Xbox

The next-gen upgrade for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on Xbox Series X/S is delayed due to some technical issues, with the PS5 one still set to release.

With PS5 owners set to get a next-gen update for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot soon, Xbox Series X/S owners will be left waiting a little longer due to some technical issues. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released for PS4 and Xbox One back in 2020 and since then, fans of the RPG with next-gen hardware have been playing that version of the Bandai Namco game, but that’s about to change specifically for PlayStation.

Bandai Namco has confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S next-gen upgrade patch for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot won’t be coming for a while due to a technical issue that hasn’t been resolved, with developers neglecting to give it a new release date. Because Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was released toward the tail end of the last generation of consoles, yet continues to receive DLC content, many owners of the game are getting a limited experience of it on their PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. This limited experience was set to be resolved with an update this month which will still arrive on PS5 consoles but has changed indefinitely for the Xbox Series X/S.

According to the Dragon Ball Games Twitter account, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot‘s next-gen upgrades for Xbox Series X/S will be “delayed until further notice.” It confirms that the technical team at Bandai Namco is working to resolve the issue already, but the team hasn’t clarified how long it would take for a clear fix versus a more complicated problem with the platform. The launch of the latest expansion to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot called Bardock was set to coincide with the next-gen patch release, but Xbox Series X/S owners won’t be receiving the visual and technical improvements in time, unlike PS5 owners.

Gamers that already own a physical PS4 version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will get the next-gen upgrade upon launching the game tomorrow, while the Xbox One disc will get the same treatment once Bandai Namco is able to rectify the technical problem. The Bardock DLC is part of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot season pass 2 which adds further longevity for the already lengthy Bandai Namco RPG which may add further incentive for prospective Xbox Series X/S players when the patch eventually drops.

Because it’s a fresh update, some Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players are also reporting issues with the next-gen upgrade which may suggest that the Bandai Namco problems extend beyond the Xbox Series X/S in some cases. Given that Bandai Namco didn’t elaborate on a time frame like with Card Warriors mode on Nintendo Switch, it’s currently unclear when Xbox Series X/S fans can expect the improvements or if it will end up happening after the investigation.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
