The purchase is expected to enhance Indra’s offerings portfolio including FAA-certified Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) and TACAN, providing navigational information to military and civilian aircraft.

This development reportedly positions Indra as a top-tier global player in the navaid sector.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Expected to close in Q1 2023, the deal awaits regulatory nod, including approval from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Incorporated as Indra Air Traffic, the new business line will be engaged in designing and manufacturing air navigational aid systems in the US and sold across the globe.

Currently, Selex has installed air traffic navigation systems in 110 countries and established its presence in the instrument landing systems (ILS) segment.

In North America, Selex is the sole provider to the US Air Force and US Navy.

Indra CEO Ignacio Mataix said: “The combination of Indra and the assets acquired from Selex in the United States will yield important synergies for our Aerospace and Defense business in the current US market, currently the largest in the world, and the upcoming Federal Aviation Administration programs to renew infrastructures.

“This acquisition, to date our most significant purchase in the air traffic management) (ATM) market in the US, will establish us as a major global player throughout the sector, particularly in the air navigational aid system segment.”
