Indiana’s sports technology initiative is gaining momentum. Its goal is to bring four related companies to the state by the end of this year. Sports Tech HQ Inc., a subsidiary of the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC), has been actively promoting the initiative since its establishment in June 2022. The organization is building relationships with leaders in the sports technology sector through events, programming, incentives, and site tours.
Sports technology includes wearable devices that measure movement and speed, heart rate and pressure sensors, and tools for assessing team performance. To support the initiative, the IEDC has invested $2.5 million in Sports Tech HQ, and the agreement is expected to be extended.
Indiana aims to attract a significant portion of the global sports technology industry, valued at $13.1 billion and projected to reach $74 billion by 2030. Jeffrey Hintz, executive director of Sports Tech HQ, emphasized the goal of expanding the existing sports ecosystem in Indiana and prioritizing sports technology growth. Hintz highlighted the organization’s efforts in identifying potential companies, including recent meetings and site tours with both domestic and international firms.
