Illinois’ first female honor flight takes off via Southwest Airlines from Midway Airport

CHICAGO (WLS) — An honor flight out of Midway Airport will make history Wednesday as the very first to be all-women in Illinois.

Honor flights are unique objectives that take military veterans to Washington, D.C. to honor their service to the nation.

On Wednesday early morning, it will be all females onboard.

This follows a year-long hold-up due to the COVID pandemic.

Ninety 3 female veterans will be on this flight, which was arranged to remove about 6:45 a.m.

This is Illinois’ very first honor flight specifically for females.

They will take part in a day-long all-expense-paid journey to Washington to check out monoliths.

The group consists of The second world war, Korea and Vietnam veterans.

Rochelle Crump is a Vietnam veterinarian. She assisted arrange this.

“I looked at, were there any women there? And there was always like one or two,” Crump stated. “They never really shined a light on them because of the domination of the males.”

The taking part veterans all resided in Illinois when they served, today they come from all over the Chicago location and the state.

Some took a trip as far as California and Arkansas.

The unique flight is chartered by Southwest Airlines.
