Idiocy of the Week: Obesity Is the Future of Fitness, SELF Magazine

Leer en Español

SELF magazine stars in El American’s Idiocy of the Week with its latest issue dedicated to the “Future of Fitness,” in which they denounce fatphobia and white supremacism in gyms.

The left has to continually come up with new kinds of oppression to make their followers believe that they need to vote for them to solve their problems. Problems that, by the way, you could normally solve by yourself without any kind of public policy. But apparently, it is easier to believe that someone will solve them for you.

The latest of these alleged oppressions fattened by the woke ideology is “fatphobia”. Unlike previous oppressions – for which they always claimed as a solution more public money and affirmative action quotas – the movement against “fatphobia” has the peculiarity of not claiming free gyms, but demanding that the canon of beauty, as well as the customs and definitions in the world of fitness, change.

Almost by definition, getting fit means not being fat, and it doesn’t mean getting spherical. But apparently, we were wrong all along.

This turmoil, according to progressivism, is the result of the same old excuse for all the world’s ills. This time, too, according to some of the experts who have written for SELF, it’s all the fault of white privilege. Of course!

As far as they’re concerned, the whole gym industry and fitness movement are anti-fat people. I say that’s the idea, isn’t it? Assuming that a gym is an unwelcoming place that looks down on fat people is the same as assuming that a hospital is unwelcoming to sick people and that they’re going to look down on you for being unhealthy.

SELF magazine feeds the woke narrative

Once again, the left shows that it has no limits when it comes to feeding paranoia and victimhood in order to hold power, and it seems that they have seen in the obese an endless source of voters.

Wokeism again exploits the idea that we can eliminate from reality any fact or concept that makes us feel bad, or that reminds us that we are not perfect and that we can and should try to improve.

Of course, do not ask for coherence to this ideology, since they tell you that morbid obesity is good and you should not do anything to solve it, but simply accept yourself as you are, and that if the doctor advises you to go to the gym and change your diet is because he is a privileged white supremacist colluding with the turbo-capitalist and ultra-right-wing fitness industry, while at the same time assuring you that if you believe you were born the wrong gender, you must undergo expensive and irreversible genital mutilation surgeries and take dangerous hormonal drugs for life.

All this push by the left of the narrative against “fatphobia” suspiciously adds to their other misanthropic, anti-life narratives. After all, what do a morbidly obese person, a transgender, and an aborted baby have in common? A very short life expectancy and a leftist activist whispering in their ear that it’s the right thing to do.
