Sony announced earlier this year that it would ramp up PlayStation 5 production, which might mean you’ll have an easier time purchasing one this holiday season. But getting your hands on a PS5 is only a part of the PlayStation experience. You’ll need PlayStation Plus to take advantage of online multiplayer. Right now, you can get one year of PlayStation Plus Essential for $50.
When Sony restructured its game subscription service in June, it introduced Extra and Premium tiers with additional perks. The Essential level is a rebranding of the original service, offering free PS4 and PS5 titles for members to add to their libraries each month. For example, November’s lineup includes Nioh 2 and Nioh 2 Remastered, the Lego Harry Potter Collection and Heavenly Bodies. Once you’ve claimed a monthly game, it’ll stay in your library until your PlayStation Plus subscription ends.
You can expand your collection further with exclusive discounts on add-ons and pre-orders in the PlayStation Store. PS5 owners can enjoy an additional benefit: the PlayStation Plus Collection. This list features some of last generation’s most popular titles like Detroit: Become Human, God of War and Resident Evil 7.
Another one of Essential’s crucial features is online multiplayer. Some free-to-play titles, such as Genshin Impact and Overwatch 2, don’t require a Plus membership, but you’ll need it to enter matchmaking in paid games like GTA Online and the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Essential subscribers also get access to limited-time content, including weapon and avatar cosmetics.
To top it off, Essential members get 200GB of cloud storage split between PS4 and PS5 game data. So if you poured hundreds of hours into Elden Ring on your console at home, you could access your save files when logging into your account on another PlayStation.
Enjoy exclusive discounts and participate in online matchmaking with PlayStation Plus Essential. You can sign up for a one-year membership for $50 or $10 off.
