Everything to know about the PlayStation and Xbox versions

Monster Hunter Rise was the follow-up to the wildly popular Monster Hunter World, but unlike its predecessor, the game was never released on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Instead, it was a Nintendo Switch (and PC) exclusive, preventing many fans from enjoying the critically acclaimed title.

That changes next month though as Monster Hunter Rise is set to launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Here’s everything we know about the game’s upcoming release.

When is Monster Hunter Rise releasing on Xbox and PlayStation?

Monster Hunter Rise will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on January 20, 2023. There are two versions available for pre-order right now: the Standard Edition ($39.99) and the Deluxe Edition ($49.99).

Pre-ordering either version will get you the following bonuses:

  • Palamute Retriever Costume layered armor
  • Palico Forest Cat Costume layered armor
  • Novice Talisman for some extra assistance in the early stages

Spending a little extra on the Deluxe Edition gets you even more bonuses, including:

  • “Kamurai” Hunter layered armor set
  • “Fish Collar” Palico layered armor piece
  • “Shuriken Collar” Palamute layered armor piece
  • “Jump” gesture set – Samurai pose set
  • “Kabuki” face paint
  • “Izuchi Tail” hairstyle

It should also be noted that Monster Hunter Rise will be an Xbox Game Pass launch title, meaning those who are subscribed to Microsoft’s service will be able to play the game for free.

What are the new features?

As the PlayStation and Xbox consoles are more powerful than the Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Rise will have some new features. This includes special filters for all versions (Black & White, Sepia, Japanese-style and Warring Lands-style), 4K 60FPS support on the Series X and PS5, optimized keyboard and mouse controls on PC, voice chat on all platforms, graphical options for optimization on PC, 3D Audio Support on Series X|S, PS5 and PC, Adaptive Trigger Support on PS5, and Ultrawide Display on PC.

As far as gameplay is concerned, Monster Hunter Rise feels very much in line with Monster Hunter World. The addition of the Wirebug adds a new sense of verticality to the game. And, of course, there are new weapons and armor, new monsters and an entirely new world with seamless, open locales.

Will Monster Hunter Rise have crossplay or cross-progression?

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter Rise will not feature crossplay or cross-progression between any of these new platforms. However, those within the same console family will be able to play cross-generation, so PS5 and PS4 players will be able to adventure together.
