Cubs call up P.J. Higgins, Tony Wolters designated for assignment
Cubs contact P.J. Higgins, Tony Wolters DFA’d initially appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Cubs switched backup catchers on Wednesday, calling P.J. Higgins from Triple-A Iowa while designating Tony Wolters for project.
Higgins, who has yet to make his MLB launching, is readily available for Wednesday’s video game versus the Nationals.
Higgins, 28, struck well with Iowa to begin the season, batting .333/.458/.513 (13-for-39) in 11 video games. With Austin Romine hurt in spring training, he remained in the mix for an area on the Opening Day lineup, prior to the Cubs signed Wolters in late March.
Wolters, 28, appeared in 14 video games throughout 2 stints with the Cubs this season. They DFA’d him on April 14, ultimately bringing him back to the major leagues a couple of weeks later on, when Romine went on the hurt list with a wrist injury.
Wolters slashed .125/.276/.125 with the Cubs, however they have actually raved about his game-calling behind the plate.
