Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright reveals wife, all five kids had COVID-19
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright was back on the mound Monday night versus the New york city Mets after being put on the COVID-19 hurt list recently.
Although Wainwright is completely immunized and did not test favorable for the coronavirus, he had actually been out considering that April 29 to look after his spouse Jenny and 5 kids who all contracted COVID-19.
“We returned from the roadway, and I went directly to a hotel since my entire team had it, and my spouse, she texted me at one point and stated I can’t go any longer without you being here,” Wainwright said after Monday’s game.
“So I needed to. That’s why I needed to go house, and when my spouse states that, she’s a hard woman, she’s a truly hard lady, therefore when she stated that, I understood I needed to go house.”
Wainwright said each family member is now doing better.
And because Wainwright has been vaccinated, he was allowed to return to the team Monday.
“I’m truly thankful I got the vaccine,” Wainwright said, “Otherwise, I would have needed to decide. I’m either going house, which I would have done, and most likely going to miss out on a minimum 2 weeks, most likely 3 or 4. Or now I can go house and be with them and assist be a papa.”
Manager Mike Shildt respected Wainwright’s decision to sit out.
“Household initially, male, went to look after his household,” Shildt said. “A great deal of regard for that man, and he was clear, [there] wasn’t any 2nd thinking about it, ‘I have actually got to go house and be a great father and excellent hubby, be strong for my household,’ It’s the best thing to do.”
“There’s a reason he won the Roberto Clemente Award.”
Wainwright pitched into the sixth inning and got the win on Monday, his first victory of the season.
