Boston’s Josh Richardson relates Lakers, Celtics ‘know the sense of urgency’ needed for tonight’s game

The Boston Celtics will handle the Los Angeles Lakers at TD Garden Friday, Nov. 19 with an even worse record than their West Coast competitors, however neither group is going to indicate their position in the standings as a point of pride.

Currently sitting at 10th in the East with a 7 – 8 record, the Celtics are one video game behind Los Angeles at 8 – 8, with both groups starving for a win and crossing their fingers that key gamers can dress to assist them make one. LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and Robert Williams III are all game-time choices for their particular groups, however neither has actually struck the panic button right now.

Speaking with the media after practice Friday morning, Celtics wing Josh Richardson explained why the two franchises are keeping their cool despite their rough starts to 2021-22.

“They are a veteran team,” said Richardson of the Lakers. “So, they know how it goes.”

“They know how to approach these things,” he added, acknowledging the unusual state of the rivalry with both groups hovering around .500 in a season both hope to make deep postseason runs.

“Just like we’re not panicking over here, I’m sure they are not panicking there. Both teams know the sense of urgency we’ve got to approach tonight.”

Asked about the rivalry with Los Angeles itself and its current status quo, the Tennessee product — who joined the team this offseason and has yet to play the Lakers as a Celtic — was understandably less certain in his response.

“I know the history of it, but I’ve never been close to it,” Richardson explained. “I really can’t say, I guess. Ask me the next time I do media after this game and then I’ll have a better answer for you.”

It sounds as if the former Vol expects to have a big game for Boston Friday night, and even if LeBron James doesn’t return to action in this contest, the team will absolutely need one from him.

We won’t speak on behalf of the readers, however we’re more than interested in hearing Richardson’s thoughts once the contest is on the books — preferably with the kind of performance that gets one to the podium (or what passes as one these days) postgame.
