16-year-old boy fatally stabbed in ‘unprovoked’ Toronto subway attack: police – Toronto


A 16-year-old boy has died after a stabbing at a Toronto subway station, police say.

Toronto police said officers found a male victim with injuries at Keele subway station on Saturday evening. He was transported to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The teenage victim was sitting on a bench on the lower level of the station when a suspect approached him and stabbed him without provocation, according to police.

On Sunday, Toronto police named the victim as Gabriel Magalhaes, a 16-year-old boy from Toronto.

Investigators said that Jordan O’Brien-Tobin, 22 years old and of no fixed address, had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Toronto police announced in mid-March that they were ending extra patrols on city transit that had been introduced after several high-profile cases of violence on the Toronto Transit Commission. That decision came after a late-January announcement that more than 80 officers working overtime shifts would patrol various locations on the TTC.
